The backswimmer and water boatman appear, and share similar characteristics. These insects are found in slow currents and lakes. Though, even in lakes, they are rarely fed upon outside mating periods in early spring and fall. A backswimmers life is spent underwater as an adult, where they use a specially adapted pair of legs as paddles to move swiftly through their environment. Patterns should be presented in short quick strips to imitate the irregular twitchy motion of this insect.
